how to research

What is the procedure for ordering archival materials?

The procedure for ordering archival materials for the research room varies depending on whether the archival materials are considered processed and therefore have finding aids or are unprocessed.

Personal fonds, institutional fonds and varia

Finding aids are available for these processed collections. In them you will find the specific name of the archive file, the inventory number (reference designation) and the cardboard number. You will record the archival material you have selected in this way on the Request for Submission of Archival Material form, which you will send by email. We will then arrange a date for your visit.

Details of access to film-related documents are governed by the Research Regulations. According to Act No. 499/2004 Coll., on Archives and Records Management and on Amendments to Certain Acts, only archival materials older than thirty years are made available from processed or partially processed collections.

Photographs, posters and advertising materials

These parts of the collection do not have a codified type of archival tool that would allow researchers to independently search and order archival materials - they are therefore considered unprocessed. However, the collections can be searched through card catalogues and accession books.

Unprocessed fonds

Unprocessed fonds are normally inaccessible, but exceptions can be made. Requests may be made in writing (electronic delivery of a scan is preferred). A brief description of the research project should accompany the request; in addition, students should include a written recommendation from their faculty advisor(s).

Entry into the unprocessed collections is often preceded by quite extensive research. If the search does not take more than one hour of work, it is free of charge; in other cases we charge a search fee according to the price list.
