Eroticon

The first screening of Erotikon took place at a semi-private event in Prague on the 27th of February 1929. In July of the same year, Erotikon entered wider cinematic distribution with several shots removed due to censorship. The goal of this restoration was to get as close as posiible to the uncensored February 1929 version.

The sources for the restoration were: a vintage print, most probably originatin from the first screening of the film, an acetate print and a duplicate negative, all preserved by the Národní filmový archiv, Prague; a vintage print from the collection of the Département de la Charente and preserved by Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée; a vintage print from the collection of the Cinématheque Royale de Belgique/Koninklijk Belgisch Filmarchief.

A new intertitle, marked NFA 2024, was created and inserted. Its content is derived from censorship records and its typography imitates the style of the preserved original titles.

No period accompaniment survived to this day. For this restoration, a new score composed by Jana Vöröšová was commissioned. The music was recorded by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jan Kučera. The recording was supervised by Petr Strejc and mixed at the Czech Radio and mastered by the Soundsquare studio. The editing, mixing, and mastering of the recording were conducted under the supervision of the Národní filmový archiv, Prague.

The digital restoration of this film, funded from the donation of Milada Kučerová and Eduard Kučera, was carried out in studio UPP by the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival under the supervision of the Národní filmový archiv, Prague. The restoration was done in 2023-2025. The collaboration among the participating archives took place thanks to FIAF, the International Federation of Film Archives.
