About the film distribution
The film was digitally restored in 2016.
The image was digitized from the original negative on Agfa material. A duplication positive was used as a secondary source to fill in the missing windows. The image was digitized at 4K resolution, the working and finishing resolution was set to 4K based on tests. The visible part of the image is defined by the projection window standard with an aspect ratio of 1:1.37. The film was screened in this format at the time of its first release.
In addition to the original negative, the duplication positive and the duplication negative, two prints on Orwo material have been preserved in the NFA, one of which was selected as the most suitable for tonal reference. The tonality of the digitised version of the film is thus based on this particular film print on Orwo material.
Possible sources for the sound digitisation were: sound negative, duplication positive, combined duplication negative and distribution print. Based on the tests, the duplication positive was chosen as the most suitable source.
