About the film distribution

The goal of this digital restoration was to make the film available in a form similar to how the audience may have seen and heard it when it was first released in 1947. Soon after the film's premiere, the negative was significantly shortened. Two original prints, made before the negative was edited, have been preserved in the Národní filmový archiv, Prague. These prints have made it possible to complete the film with the scenes that had been cut out in 1947.

Film materials preserved by the Národní filmový archiv, Prague served as sources for the digitization: the image was digitized from the original negative, the duplicate negative, the duplicate positive and two positive prints; the sound was digitized from the duplicate negative, the original negative, and two positive prints.

The digital restoration of this film, funded from the donation of Mrs. Milada Kučerová and Mr. Eduard Kučera, was carried out in UPP and Soundsquare studios by the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in collaboration with the Národní filmový archiv, Prague. The restoration was done in 2022–2024.
