Barrandov Nocturne, or How Film Danced and Sang

Vladimír Sís, Zdeněk Podskalský, 1984

Summary

Experienced director Vladimír Sís has made a number of cut-up films based on excerpts from older Czech films and supplemented with touch-ups. In addition to The King of Comedians, which is dedicated to Vlasto Burian, Solo for Jaroslav Marván and Singing Film, this filmmaker also made an editing film that captures the 50th anniversary of the Barrandov studios. The relaxing entertainment is set in the expensive sets of the variety theatre, which were built for the needs of the television series Circus Humberto. Views of the auditorium now serve as a reminder of many of Barradov's celebrities of the time, while the variety show offers entertainment payable to the tastes of the period. The performances of popular actors and singers are mainly tied to film models, and Vladimír Sís has interspersed them with excerpts from his own films and those of his colleagues.
