Summary

Valery’s Week of Wonders is a colourful dreamy poetic work of art. It is centered around a young teenage girl whose desire to discover her own origin leads her to a fantasy world. Ultimately it becomes unclear, whether she is present in an actual reality, or she is surrounded by the concepts of her inner world. Valery inevitably has to deal with dark dangerous adventures, but they help her grow into a strong young woman. Script of the film was inspired by a famous novel of the same name written in 1932 by Vítězslav Nezval, a leading personality of Czech surrealism. His vivid imagination was transformed into the medium of film due to congenial cooperation of the director Jaromil Jireš, his co-scriptwriter, artist and costume designer Ester Krumbachová and cinematographer Jan Čuřík.
