Summary

The year of 1974 saw the release of two – no less – “technophobic” comedies which tackled the unhealthy aspects of computer technology. Alongside Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje! (Joachim, Put Him into the Machine!) – a story about the bizarre influence of a computer-generated biorhythm chart on the life of a shy tractor driver, directed by Oldřich Lipský – cinemagoers were also treated to this romantic comedy by screenwriter and director Petr Schulhoff. Its protagonists are husband and wife Viktor and Marta (real-life spouses Vlastimil Brodský and Jana Brejchová) who, after having lived together happily for a decade, gain the sense that due to their dissimilar natures they are a couple that is absolutely mismatched. Taking the example of their friend Alena (Iva Janžurová), they decide to pay a visit to the cybernetic institute where a computer recommends the ideal partner for each of them. The new partners, however, prove even more unsuitable than the original ones… This well turned out and, in its day, thematically rather peculiar picture, has remained entertaining to this day, partly thanks to its superb cast of performers.
