Summary

The love drama Night Butterfly, set in the last years of the Austrian monarchy, was made by the twenty-eight-year-old František Čáp from a script co-written with Václav Krška. Together, they elevated a simple melodramatic story into a cinematic work of exceptional quality. In addition to a stellar cast (Hana Vítová, Adina Mandlová, Rudolf Hrušínský, Svatopluk Beneš, Gustav Nezval, Marie Glázrová, Eduard Kohout, Anna Steimarová), the film captivates with its rich sets and erotic sparkle. It was not only because of this that Night Butterfly was banned by the communist censors.
